Music History: 1956: Dressed in a tux and tails on Steve Allen’s TV variety show, Elvis Presley sang "Hound Dog" to a basset hound sitting on a stool.

When the 101 number one song of the day got to the top, the group became the first artists of the rock era to have their first three chart releases reach number one.

The song listed its writing and production credits as “The Corporation” rather than give the actual people individual credit. That was most likely due to the bitterness involved in the recent split with superstar writers and producers Holland Dozier Holland. Berry Gordy, Jr. didn’t want anybody getting too big for their britches although the diminutive lead singer in question here today was getting bigger by the hit. The number one song on this day – June 29, 1970 belonged to the Jackson Five – “The Love You Save”

Listen for the replay and caller number 10 wins $30 for Corn Dogs Plus
