Today is NOW Day

Today is Leap Second Adjustment Day, time to leap ahead one whole second.

History 101: June 30, 1908: the most powerful explosion ever recorded on the earth -- a meteor or comet weighing over a million tons crashed into the Tunguska region of Siberia sending a seismic shock, firestorm and black rain over hundreds of square miles.

Then and now…

Music History 101: (okay, this is not really music history but they wrote a song about it) 47 years ago today, a factory executive received the first speeding ticket issued for GM’s newest muscle car when he took one for a "quick spin around the block" weeks before they were actually delivered to showrooms. The car was a GTO.

The 101 number one song of the day made the second largest leap to number one in the rock era. It debuted on the Hot 100 at number 28 moved up to 15 the next week and wound up on top the following week on this day in 1966.

One of the members of the group had written a book a couple of years earlier. It was called “In His Own Write.” The Times of London said it was, “worth the attention of anyone who fears for the impoverishment of the English language and the British imagination.” In any case it was the inspiration for the song you’re about to hear. By the way, John wrote the Book, Paul wrote the song which was number one on June 30, 1966 “Paperback Writer’”
