Today is Walk on Your Wild Side Day

walk-on-the-wild-side

Well that’s a pretty wild walk.  You might want to try something a little less risky but, nonetheless, unpredictable.

It is also Be Kind to Lawyers Day.

Here’s a lawyer that we always liked.

History 101: The US Civil War began on this date in 1861.

civil war

First things first…in January of 1961:

When Abraham Lincoln, a known opponent of slavery, was elected president, the South Carolina legislature perceived a threat. Calling a state convention, the delegates voted to remove the state of South Carolina from the union known as the United States of America. The secession of South Carolina was followed by the secession of six more states -- Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas -- and the threat of secession by four more -- Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. These eleven states eventually formed the Confederate States of America.

then-

When President Lincoln planned to send supplies to Fort Sumter, he alerted the state in advance, in an attempt to avoid hostilities. South Carolina, however, feared a trick; the commander of the fort, Robert Anderson, was asked to surrender immediately. Anderson offered to surrender, but only after he had exhausted his supplies. His offer was rejected, and on April 12, the Civil War began with shots fired on the fort. Fort Sumter eventually was surrendered to South Carolina.

Did you know that more people were killed in the Civil War than in WW I and WW II combined?

Now on to more mundane, happier moments in History:

Music History 101: At the Pythian Temple in New York City on April 12, 1954, at 4:30pm, a song was recorded that was number one on the charts for about eight weeks in the winter of 1954-55, and is credited with starting the rock'n'roll revolution. Bill Haley & The Comets – ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK.

A look ahead to Friday.  We’re anticipating a visit from Chad at the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley and this week’s “Pet of the Week” but after seeing these pictures, we couldn’t wait to give you a preview:

That takes us from one very comfy cat to one sad dog.  Ricci is one of KC’s dogs who just got a message from Murphy, the cockatoo.

The 101 number one song of the day wasn’t actually one song at all – it was more like two halves of two different songs and there was an internal struggle to bring those both halves together.  The first part was an introduction piece to a musical and the group that took it to the top saw it performed on stage and immediately wanted to record it. Their producer, Bones Howe, was not impressed saying, “it’s only a half a song.” They said, “You gotta see it on stage.” So he did and it was then he realized that something later on in the show entitled “The Flesh Failures” would be a perfect complement. The group wasn’t convinced but Bones persisted and together they pieced the two parts together for a song that reached number one on April 12, 1969 and became the second biggest single of the year. Here’s your 101 number one song of the day for the “Fifth Dimension” (Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In)
