You know…we don’t even know why they call them ‘jungle gyms’. Do pipes grow in weird geodesic shapes in the Amazon??
This is also National Sky Awareness Week…
and National Scoop the Poop Week.
-Of course…if you’re looking at the sky…you might miss some poop somebody forgot to scoop…so be careful out there.
History 101: April 25, 1507: The label "America" was first used on a map 504 years ago today when German cartographer Martin Waldseemuller named the newly discovered western continents after explorer Amerigo Vespucci.
Music History 101: April 24, 1968: These entertainers refused to perform for the Queen of England at a British Olympic Appeal Fund show. Their explanation, "We don't do benefits." It was the Beatles.
101 Number One Song of the Day doesn’t sound like Elvis but the King’s influence was responsible for his choice of stage names although it wouldn’t be obvious to the casual fan. Glyn Ellis was born in Manchester, England and by 1965, even people from Manchester were considered to have the Liverpool sound. But it was more of a Memphis sound that inspired Glyn when he started plying his trade in the pubs and clubs around his hometown. So when he came to change his name he took one from one of Elvis’s backup musicians. As for his group’s name, that came from a horror film playing at the local cinema. And that brings us to today’s 101 number one song which ruled the charts on April 25, 1965– True Elvis fans would recognize the name of his drummer, D. J. Fontana and that’s how Glyn Ellis became Wayne Fontana. The horror flick was titled “The Mindbenders” – “Game of Love”
Other Stuff:
Here’s an interesting sign of an improving economy…more people are getting divorced.
The experts say there’s a two year pent-up demand to separate. Couple ended up staying together during the recession because they couldn’t get the financing to start separate households. But now the number of couple splitting up is back on the rise. The experts say one difference…in the past, divorcing couples argued over who got the house…now they’re arguing over who gets ‘stuck’ with the house. Which means…guys finally get the house!!! Because they owe $70,000 more than it’s worth.
This is part economy…part healthy living. Fast food restaurants report the great French fry decline. Fast food French fry sales are down over 500-million pounds since 2007. They say people are cutting back on their spending for fast food…and cutting the fries before the sandwich. And those people still getting a side…are opting for the healthier options on the menu. In the same time frame, McDonald’s has sold 60-million pounds of apples. Experts say once the economy is back in gear…they expect French fry sales to rebound.
