Reportedly, Harry was not happy about the idea.

1966: A young rock and roller gets a boost when his band The Castiles wins a battle of the bands contest at a roller rink in Matawan, NJ. The first prize? Opening for the Crystals and the Ad-Libs at next week's show. It was Bruce Springsteen.

The 101 Number One Song of the day made a spectacular debut on Hot 100 at Number Six – the highest entry of all time and rarely was there a song which more fittingly spoke to the recording group’s many fans.  News of their break-up made headlines right be their song reached the top. One of the group’s members already had his own single on the chart. One could look back on their evolution from a local club band to the most famous musicians in the world. They were four individuals who had matured personally and professionally to a point where the dissolution of the group was inevitable. It was time for each of them to control his own destiny and to make his own music. No matter how much the rest of the world wanted them to remain together, it was time to – “Let It Be” – the number one song on April 23rd, 1970 and today’s 101 number one song of the day – The Beatles.

Let it be
