The 101 number one song of the day is a love song. But it is a very different love song because it does not express love for another human being --rather it is for an animal. And it happens to be about an animal that very few of us would consider the least bit lovable. It’s the title song to a horror movie about an ailing youngster who somehow befriends the leader of a killer gang. Authorities are intent on wiping out the gang but the kid wants to protect the leader and he composes a song about their relationship. The movie was a hit and so, obviously, was the song that was number one on October 15, 1972 – it was a song about a rat – named “Ben” --Michael Jackson .
