And the 30th annual Whole Enchilada Fiesta was a big success, especially for 101 Gold and our sister stations. Music History 101: 2001: A stretch of highway 19 in Nutbush, TN was named after a former resident- Anna Mae Bullock who left Nutbush when she was only 17 years old. However, officials of Nutbush did not name it Anna Mae Bullock Highway but instead used the name Anna Mae took later in life – Tina Turner.
The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by the only American to have a number one hit in Great Britain during a 68 week period that began August 8th 1963 through June 25th 1964. And he did it twice. This man was so popular in Britain that when he toured the country in 1963 his opening act was the Beatles. The two songs that reached the top during the aforementioned period were “It’s Over” and today’s featured single…which took a little longer to get to number one in his home country but that’s where it was on September 27, 1964 for Roy Orbison (Oh, Pretty Woman)

The United Nations has designated an obscure astrophysicist from Malaysia as Earth’s first contact should we ever be visited by aliens. Mazlan Othman is the head of the UN’s Office for Outer Space Affairs and has been overseeing science’s recent discovery of hundreds of earth-like plants in the universe. One official said Othman is the closest thing we’ve got to a ‘take us to your leader’ person.

California’s ‘Octomom’ , Nadya Suleman is in danger of losing her house – so over the weekend she auctioned off some of her possessions hoping to raise enough money to get current on her mortgage. She sold off her nursing bra…and the bikini she wore in pictures on magazine covers when she was pregnant with eight babies.
-And she’s got 14 kids. If she loses the house…maybe she should move into a shoe!
A Paris-based group called The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has put out the world’s first obesity forecast. The say the US is leading the world in becoming fatter. In fact, they project by the year 2020 – 75% of Americans will be overweight or obese.
