1998:  London's Mojo magazine published a poll of 175 recording stars of all ages and nations who were asked who their all-time favorite singer was--- Frank Sinatra was #2, Ray Charles #3, John Lennon #4. Elvis was #7. At number one was:

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin.

The 101 number one song of the day was the title song to a movie but more importantly, according to the song’s writer, it was a cry for help.  He said it was his “Fat Elvis” period, although at the time, Elvis had yet to gain all that weight. But, looking back, he said, the character in the movie was himself. “I was very fat, very insecure and felt that I’d lost myself.” And although most thought it was just a fast rock ‘n’ roll song, the single that was number one in America on September 9th, 1965 was literally John Lennon’s cry for (HELP!)

The 101 Gold Nugget of Knowledge: A North Carolina restaurant said signs reading “Screaming children will not be tolerated” have brought in more customers than they’ve scared away. Brenda Armes, owner of the Olde Salty restaurant in Carolina Beach, said she put up the signs after receiving multiple complaints from customers about screaming children. While reception to the policy has mostly been positive, some parents have complained about the signs. Armes said the policy is to ask the parents of a screaming child to take the child outside to calm down. She said no one will be asked to permanently leave the establishment.

Las Vegas police arrested a man who walked into a casino strapped with a defibrillator he claimed was a bomb. Police said Richard Sellers, 61, had the defibrillator vest strapped to his chest and a beer in his hand when he entered Arizona Charlie’s Saturday morning. Sellers handed the supervisor his beer and according to police said, “Someone put this on me and said if he didn’t win $1,000 in five minutes he was going to blow up the casino.” Sellers eventually admitted the vest was not dangerous after a two-hour standoff with a SWAT unit. He told officers he worked alone. Sellers was booked on suspicion of felony making a terroristic threat in addition to extortion and burglary charges.

We can’t believe how much “news” time this has been given but here we go giving it some more.  Calling her “a Lindsay Lohan wannabe,” a judge has fined “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi $500 and ordered her to perform community service after she pleaded guilty to disturbing others on a New Jersey beach in July. Her lawyer said Snooki was under the influence of alcohol when she stumbled around the beach in Seaside Heights, using loud language that disturbed other beachgoers. Snooki apologized to police and anyone else she bothered, claiming her behavior was not scripted as part of the show, even though cameras were rolling. The judge gave her credit for one day of community service that she spent caring for abused and neglected animals at a zoo Sunday.

Now, Dina Lohan is complaining that the Lohan family has been “dissed” by the judge.
