The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by a group which was once known as the Pagans whose lead singer was first inspired to get into music after hearing a song called, “don’t Roll Those Bloodshot Eyes at Me.”  He grew up in England inspired by American R&B and rock and roll artists such as Chuck Berry, Wilbert Harrison and Bo Diddley. Later, he joined a group called the Alan Price Combo which evolved into the Pagans whose lineup included all the members that would record the song you’re about to hear. The lead singer had first heard the song when he was ten years old and the melody always haunted him. Eventually, it would launch his musical career which would include two separate popular groups. According to popular myth, the group’s audiences had a special name for them other than the Pagans and that is the name we came to know them by. He is Eric Burdon and the group became the Animals. The song which was number one on September 8th, 1964 was House of the Rising Sun.

It’s the countdown to kick-off of the NFL season…beginning tomorrow night. 101 Gold will be at Ump88 Grill for game.  But the down economy has even hit the National Football League – with experts saying at least eleven NFL teams may be facing TV black-outs of their home games. Teams have to sell out their tickets 72 hours before game-time…or the NFL blacks out TV in their home market. They say this year, a record number of teams are facing the black out. They cite three factors in the problem – the down economy, consistently bad teams with waning fan support…and the increased quality of home television which makes it a more appealing option.

-Plus…at home you can get a beer out of the refrigerator for free…and it doesn’t cost $15-bucks to park in the garage.

In North Carolina, police arrested a middle-aged woman that had broken into a middle school in the middle of the night. They say Janice Shields, 58, of Chesnee, S.C., was scheduled to appear in court yesterday on charges of breaking and entering and assault.  Police say she was drunk…and completely naked. And police admitted they still didn’t know why she was naked…or in the school.

-Obviously…she was having a bad dream.

And tonight at sundown it is Rosh Hoshanah – the start of the new year on the Hebrew calendar-
