Here’s Mike during yesterday’s cleanup -
Today, the water is gone but the cleanup continues. Lots of soggy stuff.
Speaking of cleanups – the U. S. Marshall’s Office is operating a fugitive safe surrender program…
Task Force Commander Byron Hollister was in the 101 Gold studios this morning to get the word out. The program starts tomorrow at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on Espina, so if you know of anybody who’s wanted by the law, they ought to check out this website: http://www.nmsafesurrender.org/nmfss/ Next week there’ll be a roundup of those who don’t turn themselves in.
The 101 number one song of the day was written on a ski lift in less than 10 minutes and it brought the writer back to his college sweetheart (the story and the song is next) they were married several years before but they’d grown apart and had separated. He flew to Switzerland, but after six days – which according to the couple felt like three months – a tearful long distance call made them realize how important their relationship was. So before he returned to the states he was inspired to write the song which rose to number one on July 27, 1974. It’s John Denver and “Annie’s Song”
There’s a new ranking by Businessweek.com…of the laziest states in the nation. This doesn’t mean a lack of work ethic…but rather states that have the highest percent of sedentary leisure time. And the laziest state in America is…Louisiana. They found the favorite pastimes in Louisiana are sleeping, goofing off and watching TV. Mississippi and Arkansas came in a close second and third on the list. Some are saying the hot humid summers in the south keep people indoors with little chance of physical activity.
-Maybe people in Louisiana could spend more time at the beach. Oh yeah…never mind.
The least lazy state…was North Dakota.
North Dakotans have to keep moving to stay warm.
On the subject of keeping on the move, a new study by the American Cancer Society found the more you sit during the day – the more likely you are to die at an early age. They studied 120,000 adults and found that those that sat six hours or more a day in their leisure time were more likely to die young…than those that sat for three hours or less a day. And you would think that’s because people sitting down were eating…or smoking or drinking. But they say their results were independent of other risk factors including obesity and smoking.
-We think if God didn’t want us to sit…he wouldn’t have given us a butt.
Here’s the newest back-to-school must have for students. Paper Mate has come out with biodegradable pens. They cost a little more…but the company says they’re earth friendly and easily degrade in land-fills and compost piles after you’re done with them.
-They have biodegradable mechanical pencils, too. But, excuse me…you can’t get any more biodegradable than a wooden pencil. You keep sharpening it…until it disappears.
