Even though it’s Tuesday…

…it feels like a Monday but we ARE that much closer to Friday.

Great fun was had at this year’s Electric Light Parade despite that fact that part of our entry encountered electrical problems.  The video that was projected from atop the Box That Rocks can be viewed directly below the 101 Golden Days of Summer banner.

The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by a group whose roots can be traced back to a meeting between a salesman and a sailor in Honolulu. These two men eventually formed an act called the “Men” which consisted of a total of 13 men.  Terry Kirkman was selling business forms in Hawaii when he met Gary Alexander who was in the Navy. They both had a musical background and agreed to meet up on the mainland when Gary’s hitch was up. True to superstition, the number 13 proved to be bad luck and the group was split down the middle when 7 of the “Men” walked out after an argument during a rehearsal. Their luck began to change after the group reformed with a new name and on July 6, 1967 they scored their second number one hit – Here now is the “Association” with today’s 101 number one song of the day (Windy)

To end the long holiday weekend – a new poll. We just celebrated Independence Day – and 26% of Americans have no idea who we declared independence from!! 20% said they were not sure… and another 6% gave the wrong answer – including France, China and Mexico.  For the record…because we watch TV and know this one…we declared independence from high prices!

Scientists have now confirmed – morning people rule the world. They say chipper, happy, energetic people in the morning actually have a genetic gift called ‘morning-ness’. And they believe people with morning-ness are more successful – because they tend to be more proactive. And while people with morning-ness are more successful…people with ‘evening-ness’ tend to be more creative, intelligent and extroverted.  Frankly – we’re a little confused. People with ‘morning-ness’ are more successful… and yet we all work at radio stations…and donut shops.

Police arrested Japanese hot dog-devouring legend Takeru “The Tsunami” Kobayashi after he tried to rush the stage Sunday at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. A six-time Nathan’s champ, Kobayashi made his move after Joey “Jaws” Chestnut won his fourth consecutive Mustard Belt. Kobayashi had been barred from the competition due to a contract beef with Major League Eating. He was charged with resisting arrest, trespassing and obstruction of governmental affairs. As cops cuffed the ex-champ, fans chanted, “Let him eat! Let him eat!” The judge released Kobayashi without bail yesterday morning. He’ll be back in court next month. Meanwhile, Chestnut put away 54 dogs and buns, short of his record of 68, to take the win.

San Diego police say an “honest mistake” led a drunken man to get undressed and fall asleep in a condo nearly 20 miles from his own home on Sunday. “This gentleman thought he had been walking into his own home,” Police Lt. Jim Filley said. “We think it was an honest mistake.” The homeowner who discovered the naked house guest apparently agreed and declined to press charges. Honest mistake?  More than 20 miles from home?   Since this story didn’t contain a name we wondered at first if it was this guy whose done the couch thing before -
