Pull Up Your Pants Day

So why not revisit this guy – Larry Platt

Well it’s no laughing matter what is going on in the Gulf of Mexico with the BP gusher still gushing so we spoke with Congressman Harry Teague this morning because he’s not only our representative in Congress but he’s an oil man too.  He’s in Las Cruces today and tomorrow at the Re-Energize America conference at the Farm and Ranch Museum.  You’re invited.

The 101 number one song of the day was instrumental in transforming a woman who had spent six years going nowhere while recording show tunes into rock and roll royalty.  She had been under contract to Columbia Records where lush orchestral arrangements did nothing to take her considerable talents and turn her into a star. A producer at Atlantic Records – Jerry Wexler - was sure she’d connect with the public if only she abandoned the Broadway stuff and return to her roots in gospel music. It was that kind of style and energy that would unleash her rather remarkable vocal powers and get her the respect she deserved. And as it just so happens, the late great Otis Redding had written just the right song that would complete the transformation from show tune singer to the person who would become the Queen of Soul. And so it is…the 101 number one song of the day rose to the top of the charts on June 3, 1967 for Aretha Franklin. (Respect)

Paul McCartney was at the White House yesterday to perform for the President and First Lady and he received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

He was also speaking recently why he doesn’t do requests.  It’s because he’s written and recorded so many songs he can’t remember them all!

Remember Dad this Father’s Day (6-20) but what will you get him?

fathers day

Be careful because nearly half of fathers recently surveyed by Wakefield Research on behalf of Western Union said they have “pretended” to like a Father’s Day gift they received. Tools are the most predictable gift, according to one-third of fathers. About 20% said they expect a tie, while another 20% believe they’ll get cologne. Books and golf balls also ranked high.

The umpire’s blind!  Las Crucens have been enjoying pro baseball with the Vaqueros tied for first in their league but up in the bigs fans are screaming after a blown call kept the Detroit Tigers’ Armando Galarraga from getting a perfect game.    First baseman Miguel Cabrera cleanly fielded Jason Donald's grounder to his right and made an accurate throw to Galarraga covering the bag. The ball was there in time, and all of Comerica Park was ready to celebrate the 3-0 win over Cleveland, until Joyce emphatically signaled safe. The veteran ump regretted it.  "It was the biggest call of my career, and I kicked the (stuff) out of it," Joyce said, looking and sounding distraught as he paced in the umpires' locker room. "I just cost that kid a perfect game.   "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay."

blown call

It would have been the third perfect game in the majors this season.
