Today is Flag Day an d the kick-off of Flag Week in the U.S., marking adoption of the Stars & Stripes on June 14, 1777.
Today is Army Day, marking creation of the U.S. Army, the first military service, by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775.
The 101 number one song of the day was produced by the legendary George Martin who had a knack for getting to the top with British musicians but things were a little different with this group of… army brats. Three friends got together to start their group while attending London’s Central High School. But these guys had little in common with the rest of the rock and rollers coming out of England. They weren’t English. But they were certainly influenced by the music scene there and after several successful albums, they enlisted the aid of the producer who helped to mold the Beatles. George Martin had heard they took a long time to complete an LP and he was worried that it would take a long time to complete their work together. But they were determined to impress their new producer so they went into heavy rehearsals before going into the studio and when they did, their work was completed in two weeks. Today’s 101 number one song of the day came from their followup album and this time Martin was happy to work with them. The album was called Hearts and its biggest single reached the top on June 14, 1975 for the sons of American Army officers – America – and this is it “Sister Golden Hair”
Other stuff:
The big news over the weekend, the underdog American soccer team tied the team from England – one to one – on Saturday. We weren’t expected to do well against them. We’re elated – they’re devastated.
But the nonstop drone of the plastic horns know as “vuvuzelas” are starting to wear very thin. In fact, there is talk of banning them because many fans, players and broadcasters are being driven nuts by them. Other fans want to keep their horns. We’ll see how this plays out.
Careerbuilders.com has come up with a list of clothes that are never appropriate in the office – even during summer. The biggest offender is flip-flops – they say they’re not right for the business environment – and the noise drives co-workers crazy. Other summer office no-no’s include shorts, bathing suits, sunglasses indoors, crazy shirts you picked up on vacation – and they say – don’t wear anything see-through.
A model in Russia is suing an airline there – saying air turbulence damaged her 44-inch breast implants. Irene Ferrari said the turbulence slammed her into the seat in front of her – and there wasn’t enough space for the implants. She had to have them both replaced. Each weighs over 20 pounds!!
-We’re surprised they didn’t make her put them in the over-head bin!!!
