Write an Old Friend Day…

…and ask for tips on saving because today is also Teach a Child to Save Day.

Of course, with snail mail it will be a while before you get an answer.  But just imagine what you’d be worth if you actually saved all along. Maybe you know, because maybe you DID. Good for you! Will you adopt us?

Speaking of accumulating money, we were talking about Billionaire Warren Buffet who does not believe in inheritances. He put his kids through college, gave them something to get started and told them, “You’re on your own. Find you own way.” We don’t want HIM to adopt us.

Then again, maybe he could teach us a thing or two.

101 number one song of the day was a big hit for a very little person. That would become a major point of controversy. Margaret Battavio was born in Lansdale, PA just 15 years, one month and 13 days before her song reached number one. She remembers being at home doing the dishes and listening to New York’s WABC radio’s nightly countdown when she heard the record you’re about to hear landed at the top. She and her family were ecstatic. However, one thing that Margaret was NOT terribly pleased about was the name the record company execs gave her. It wasn’t the new last name on the record label that bothered her. But at 4’10” tall, she was very sensitive about her height but they insisted that she be called “little” – here’s the biggest song in America on April 27th 1963 for Little Peggy March “I Will Follow Him.”

A Puny Pony was the subject of the 101 Gold Nugget of Knowledge: A New Hampshire miniature horse breeder said a newborn pinto colt was born at just over 14 inches high, well under the average height of 21 inches. Judy Smith, owner of Tiz A Miniature Horse Farm in Barnstead, said foal Einstein was born Friday. “We’ve been at this for 20 years and I’ve never seen one this small – never,” Smith said. Guinness World Records lists the smallest full grown horse as Thumbelina, a 17 -inch-tall, 60-pound dwarf mare at Goose Creek Farms in St. Louis. Smith said she hopes Einstein will be ready to meet the public during the farm’s May 8th open house.

Other Stuff:

The post office is facing billions of dollars in losses and is considering a variety of ways to cut costs. Both the commission that oversees the U.S. Postal Service and the post office’s inspector general are seeking suggestions from the public. The post office has reduced its workforce by about 200,000 over the last few years and more cuts are possible. Other cost-savings being considered include eliminating Saturday mail delivery, generating revenue from new products, raising rates, closing offices and restructuring mail processing centers. A donation from Playboy founder Hugh Hefner hugh-hefner-picture-1 helped California conservationists preserve the land surrounding the famed Hollywood sign, the organization Trust for Public Land said yesterday. Hefner’s $900,000 donation allowed TPL to receive a $500,000 matching donation from The Tiffany & Co. Foundation and philanthropist Aileen Getty, giving the group the $12.5 million needed to purchase and maintain Cahuenga Peak, the 138 acres behind the landmark sign. “The sign you see today exists because Hugh Hefner raised the money in 1978 to rebuild it,” said Chris Baumgart, Chair of the Hollywood Sign Trust. “Now, 32 years later, the sign’s number 1 fan has come forward again with the closing gift to ‘Save the Peak’ and thus the view of Mt. Lee and the Hollywood sign.” The land behind the Hollywood sign was originally purchased in 1940 by Howard Hughes, who intended to build a home for his girlfriend. After Hughes died, his estate sold the property to a group of Chicago investors in 2002. The investors put the property on the market two years ago and TPL signed an option to buy it in April 2009. Yesterday was Boobquake Day – We talked about the woman in Australian who got 21,000 women on Facebook to promise to show as much cleavage as possible – in order to disprove the Iranian cleric that blamed provocatively dressed woman for earthquakes. And wouldn’t you know it – a 6.9 earthquake rocked Taiwan yesterday.

And finally, speaking of scantily clad women…in Kure Beach, North Carolina – they’ve banned thongs on the beach this summer. The mayor calls his small town, ‘Mayberry with a beach.’ and said he’s determined to keep it that way. Obviously this is the reason the TV show – “Baywatch-Mayberry” never took off.
