The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by the first person to take a Lennon/McCartney song into Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100. Remember Charles Westover? Probably not but you’ll remember who he became. He was appearing at London’s Royal Albert Hall with the Beatles in 1963 and “From Me toYou” was number one in Britain. Just before John Lennon went on stage, he called out to him that he was going to record the song for an American audience, at first John said “fine” but then had second thoughts and yelled back, “Don’t do that.” Too late…his mind was made up but other than being a footnote to Beatle history it would have very little impact. What did have impact were several other songs that Westover had recorded including the song that was number one in the U.S. on April 26, 1961 for the man who by this time was known at Del Shannon – Runaway

They say the average American uses 57 sheets of toilet paper a day – which is six times the global average.
Other Stuff:
The smartest guy on the planet, scientist Stephen Hawking, has a new series on The Discovery Channel. In the series he says alien life is almost certain to exist – but instead of trying to contact and communicate with them – we should be trying to hide from aliens. He says if aliens ever make it to earth…it will probably be like Columbus discovering America – ultimately bad news for the inhabitants.
A new study out of California says laughter has many of the same health benefits as exercise. Laughing produces a positive mood, lowers stress hormones, increases immunity activity and lowers cholesterol and blood pressure.
CBS News had an employment specialist on their web site giving tips on how to write a good resume. Actually – how not to write a bad one. They say avoid cliché words phrases that push your resume to the bottom of the pile. For example – they say never use the phrase ‘results-oriented professional.’ The experts think that sounds too robotic. ‘Bottom-line oriented’ and ‘proven track-record of success’ are also quickly passed over. They say if you write you have ‘excellent communication skills’ – you probably don’t- because if you did, you wouldn’t use such trite words to describe them. And ‘self-motivated’ and ‘team-player’ are considered boiler-plate…and easily passed over.
A 12-year-old Long Island, New York, girl is crediting “SpongeBob SquarePants” for teaching her how to help her choking friend. Miriam Starobin, 12, said she used the lesson she learned from the Nickelodeon cartoon when her friend, Allyson Golden, began choking on a piece of gum Tuesday during a music class at Long Beach Middle School. “It was like a flash right in my eyes. I saw in my head Squidward with his clarinet lodged in his throat and then SpongeBob does the Heimlich maneuver and the clarinet comes flying out of his mouth,” Miriam said. “I had no clue what I was doing until it was done,” she added.
And finally,
A new study out of the Universities of Pennsylvania and California found women find men with monotonous voices irresistible. They studied men with monotonous voices and found they had more sex partners. The researchers believe a monotonous voice shows a sign of confidence. And they noted George Clooney and Clint Eastwood are considered to have monotonous voices. The key there being…you have to have a monotonous voice…and look like George Clooney…
