…Godeon Sundback of Hoboken, NJ, patented the zipper fastener on this day in 1913
It’s also National Adult Public Skipping Day – a day for adults to skip in public to feel like a child again.
And Today is World Dance Day – as part of ‘Dance Week’. Organizers say while dance is an integral part of human culture – it’s under prioritized by the official establishments of the world. -For example…instead of filibusters and political infighting in Washington…Democrats and Republicans could settle their differences…with a ‘dance off’.
We got on the subject of eating because IHOP has introduced Pancake Stackers. We’re essentially looking at cheesecake filling sandwiched between two pancakes. Add the eggs, bacon and hash browns to the breakfast – and you’re looking at a 1,250 calorie start to your day. KFC has the Double Down sandwich is pretty loaded too and eventually that led to discussion of the Heart Attack Grill in Chandler, AZ. Customers are served by waitresses dressed in nurses’ uniforms -
Here are some of the menu items –
Eric emailed to say that his son and daughter in law really enjoyed it when they stopped in. Anybody you know ever try it?
Yesterday, The 101 number one song of the day was tied for the shortest title ever. Today’s featured song had the longest title ever to reach the top but the singer’s memory of the recording session was very short. Because, at the time, he was spending upwards of $3000 a week to feed a drug habit that included valium, cocaine and amphetamines. Looking back at that period he wonders how he managed to live through it. Shortly after the song reached number one, he had an epiphany, cleaned himself up and spent the next several years singing gospel music for which he earned five Grammies. While that saved his life, his rock star status was gone. But on April 29, 1975 he was at number one however, it would turn out to be the last pop hit for B.J. Thomas (Hey Won’t You Play another Somebody done Somebody Wrong song)
Julia Roberts, who began her career as “Pretty Woman,” is now the most beautiful person in the world, according to People magazine’s Most Beautiful Person issue released yesterday. This is the fourth time the 42-year-old actress has headed People’s list and the 12th time she’s been named one of the world’s 100 Most Beautiful people. Only Halle Berry, who this year makes her 14th appearance on People’s iconic list, has more. Following Roberts are nine-time honorees George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman. Of those, only Lopez is back this year.
Do you think she’s the most beautiful person in the world?
$9 Gas?
Most Americans are paying about $3 a gallon for gas. But the residents of McGrath, Alaska, saw their gas prices jump by that amount in one night. The price at the only pump in the remote town 415 miles northwest of Anchorage went from $6 a gallon Friday to $9.20 the next day. Crowley Petroleum Distribution says it was forced to raise the price because the winter nearly drained the town’s supply, and the only option was to fly in more fuel. The cost increase is the difference between flying the gasoline in and shipping it on a barge. Crowley says it won’t be able to send a barge until June at the earliest. Some of McGrath’s estimated 400 residents have formed an anti-Crowley Facebook page and are trying to boycott the company while city officials look for ways to get cheaper fuel.
It was only a matter of time…Boy Scouts Offer Video Game Badge
You can earn a Scout merit badge in carpentry, citizenship, basketry – and now in video games. The Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts have added a video game pin and belt loop award, which seems to contradict the Scouts’ mission to foster physical fitness. A spokeswoman for the Scouts said the new awards were simply a response to the realities of today’s youth that video games are part of youth culture and the Scouts can help manage them. The new video game awards were implemented in December. The belt loop requires the Scout to explain why there is a rating system, come up with a schedule for playing video games, and then get the pin. Scouts are asked to compare two game systems, come up with tips for a certain game, select an educational game, and do some comparison shopping to find the best price.
And finally it’s THE TERRIBLE 14’s
When you’re a new parent, you hear stories and begin to dread the ‘terrible two’s’. But that age is nothing according to a new survey. Thebabywebsite.com did a survey of over 2,000 parents and found the most difficult child to raise is a 14-year old girl. 63% of parents said 14-year old girls are the most moody, sullen and sulky. And that’s followed by 15-year old boys. If I remember correctly, those are the ‘I hate you!’ years…Too old to spank…too young to throw out of the house.
Hey kid, lighten up…tomorrow’s Friday!
