He’s a shih tzu and he’s at the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley. This morning he was a guest in the 101 Gold studios.

There is a certain hacking, coughing sound that most cat owners know all too well. This unpleasant sound signals only one thing: Your cat is about to deposit a fresh hairball on the carpet. Congrats to Bonnie Daily who chose to go to Level Five in Swap or Stop and won and LCD-HDTV for answering the question: What famous Army General said in his farewell speech, “Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away. A. Douglas MacArthur
The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by a one time back up band that got fed up with playing a one hit wonder’s one hit once too often. Joey Dee who hit it big in the early 60s in NYC’s Peppermint Lounge with the Peppermint Twist decided to open his own club, the Starlighter Lounge. He gathered around him a group of talented musicians who became his house band. It was a good gig at first but frustration soon ensued since they’d be expected to do Joey’s main claim to fame each night…sometimes several times. They thought they had what it took to make it on their own and when their act was caught by Sid Bernstein – the promoter who brought the Beatles to Shea Stadium – he signed on to be their manager. Their second release went all the way to the top and it arrived at number one on April 30, 1966 and it’s today’s 101 number one song of the day – for the Rascals (Good Lovin’)
101 Gold Nugget of Knowledge: Square Watermelons
A company in Panama is starting to ship square watermelons to the United States. Operations manager Gerardo Diaz of the Panama Fruit Producer company says people want to know if the square melons are the result of a genetic experiment. He says the explanation is a lot simpler. The melons are grown inside cube-shaped glass boxes. However, the square melons will take a fat wallet. They cost about $75 each.
Beer Can Art
It’s always Miller time at Louis Torres’ house. The Forth Worth, Texas, man has decorated his yard with thousands of beer cans. They’re strung together to form canopies he calls “beer trees.” Torres and his buddies favor Miller Lite and Milwaukee’s Best Light. He says some days four or five cars will stop by with people taking pictures. Torres is still accepting donations of 12-packs, which become empties for more of his beer trees.
You can’t make some of this stuff up. First, Arizona passed that new illegal aliens bill. And the media was screaming that the state made it a crime to be illegal. We’re not making that up. But it gets weirder. A lot of people are threatening to boycott the state of Arizona. This came over yesterday…illegal aliens are threatening to boycott Arizona. A lot of them say they’ll leave the state if they can’t live there illegally. -So they’re threatening to retaliate for the state’s efforts to remove them…by leaving??? Take THAT!!! Arizona!! BTW, Shakira showed up in Phoenix yesterday to try and “shake things up.”
And finally, scientists in Germany have created a spray that makes men more sensitive. They say it turns even the most macho man into a dewy-eyed, baby-kisser who always says the right thing. It’s a nasal spray that affects the hormones and stimulates the feelings of affection. They’re calling it - the ‘cuddle drug’. -Your wife gets hold of this stuff…the next thing you know, you’re in the shoe store – holding her purse!!!
So in honor of the cuddle drug on this Hairball Awareness Day – we offer this:
Hope you have a great weekend!
