Semper Fi!

The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by a Texan who hired a down on his luck reggae singer named Bob Marley as a songwriter. The relationship would change both their lives.

Using the money he earned from songwriting, Marley started the Tuff Gong label on which he eventually launched his legendary career with the Wailers. As for the man who hired him, he abandoned the tuxedo he’d been wearing as a nightclub crooner and donned well faded denim to follow the beat if not the Rastafarian Religion that inspired reggae and the result was that he owned the number one song in America on November 11, 1972 – a song he wrote, produced and of course, sang – one rock critic called it “two minutes and 48 seconds of undiluted inspiration.” – Here’s Johnny Nash “I Can See Clearly Now”
