Jack Lutz was a little confused about the concept and showed up to work like this -
Today is National Secondhand Day,
Talk about confused…it’s a time to encourage thrift store donations.
Mike has been sensitive about second hand clothing and hand me downs since he was the youngest child in his family and his two older siblings were girls.
And when it comes to recycling wearing apparel, get a load of this:
Who stands and looks at a pair of men's briefs and says. “Hmmm...I can make me a nice summer top from these?”
History 101: 1958 President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs a measure providing pensions for former U.S. presidents and their widows.
Music History 101: August 25, 1970 an eccentrically dressed young man from England played his first American concert. He was the opening for act singer David Ackles.
It was in Los Angeles at the Troubadour Club. The opening act would go on to have a more memorable career. It was – Elton John.
The 101 number one song of the day transformed a $35 a week babysitter into an international singing star and choreographer – at least for a short time anyway.
Songwriters and husband wife team, Gerry Goffen and Carole King had just started a family and asked some of the various singers they worked with if they knew anybody who could care for their newborn daughter. They hired Eva Narcissus Boyd who also had a talent for singing and it turned out dancing. The couple had just written a new song and had their new babysitter cut the demo which was pitched to Dee Dee Sharp who had just scored with “Mashed Potato Time” She took a pass as did several others so label owner Don Kirshner decided to release the demo as the single. One sticking point – it was a “dance” song but no such dance existed. So the singer turned into a choreographer and made it up as she went. The song became an international hit and on August 25, 1962 it hit number one in the U.S. It was a heck ride, but a short one. The level of success was never quite duplicated by Little Eva (Locomotion)---12 years later it was recorded by Grand Funk and their single also went to number one making it one of only six songs to go to number one by different artists.
