The noise included a crying baby, a table saw, silence, people talking and a small child whining. People performed the worst on the math test when they were subjected to the whining child.
-Of course, if anyone asked us to do math problems…we’d be the ones whining.

It all began after CBS decided to give him his own TV special. He wanted his wife to appear with him so it was decided he’d put down the horn and sing her a song. 50 different songs were submitted for consideration and the one that was chosen was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The morning after the show, thousands of viewers telephoned and asked where they could get the record. As a result, a single was released the following day and on June 22, 1968 it was the number one song in America for Herb Alpert (This Guy’s in Love with You)
