History 101: 18 years ago today: John Wayne Bobbit got “lobobbitized” by his wife Lorena who threw it out the window.
Music History 101: June 23, 1970… this singer and three other men were arrested in a car in Niagara Falls, New York after police discovered they were pretending to be the Doobie Bros or at least that’s what they were caught twisting (and presumably smoking) doobies…it was Chubby Checker.
The 101 number one song of the day was written by the most successful female songwriter of all time. She wrote songs for others because she once said, “She didn’t want to become a star.” But that would all change with the release of the song you’re about to hear.
She had great success writing for such artists as Bobby Vee (Take Good Care of My Baby) the Drifters (Up on the Roof) Aretha Franklin (A Natural Woman) and “I’m into something Good” by Herman’s Hermits. This list goes on and on. But, in 1971, she recorded an album of her own material and stardom was inevitable – whether she liked it or not. The album would be number one for 15 weeks and it produced a two sided single with both songs at number one on June 23rd of that year.
