National Receptionist Day too.
And School Nurse Day.
And last, but not least, it’s National Nightshift Workers Day
History 101: 1940: The first regularly scheduled American television broadcasts began 71 years ago today on WGY in Schenectady, New York, but TV receivers were few and far between.
1957: An up and coming musical group auditioned for "Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts." They were rejected. It was Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by a musical prodigy who skipped several grades in school and wound up graduating from college at the tender age of 18. She moved fast in school but the song you’re about to hear took three years to get to the top.
She recorded today’s song in 1969 for her first album entitled “First Take.” Three years and two albums later, Clint Eastwood was filming a suspense thriller about a disc jockey.
He wanted to underscore a particularly romantic scene and remembered hearing the song and called the singer to ask permission to use it. She agreed and film fans ran from theatre to record stores demanding the single which was rushed to release and by May 11, 1972 it was number one where it stayed for six weeks. It’s Roberta Flack – “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”
