Twelfth Night

Twelfth Night

It is defined by the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary as "the evening of the fifth of January, preceding Twelfth Day, the eve of the Epiphany, formerly the last day of the Christmas festivities and observed as a time of merrymaking".

It is also Turn Up The Heat Day.

The 101 number one song of the day had advance sales that rivaled early Elvis, stayed on top as long as the Beatles and established Neil Diamond as a major songwriter.

The group had previously gotten to the top of the U.S. charts but the song you’re about to hear went to Number one in England and was a huge hit around the world and established them as international stars. The man behind the group – Don Kirshner – felt they hadn’t reached their sales potential so he was looking for just the right song to help them to the next level. Their producer, Jeff Barry was working with someone he’d discovered singing in a Greenwich Village coffee house. He’d written a song that both Barry and Kirshner knew would be right for today’s featured artists. They were correct. It was written by Barry’s protégé, Neil Diamond and it went to number one just three weeks after its release and stayed there for seven. It was the number one song on January 5, 1967 for the Monkees (I’m a Believer)

Listen for the replay and win 2 tickets to “Broadway Rocks” with Lonnie Klein and the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra.
