How about singing the 101 Number One Song of the Day?
The 101 number one song of the day was a one hit wonder by a guy who, in actuality, had a whole string of hits. How can that be? It was recorded by a man who had lots of success recording other people’s compositions and covering songs that were already hits for someone else. He had so much success, in fact, that he was afraid to record something he had written himself but eventually he took the gamble and it not only became the only hit he ever wrote himself, it became his biggest hit ever and his only charttopper. And on November 15, 1966 it was the number one song in the land – for Johnny Rivers – “Poor Side of Town.”
Congratulations to Florence Schraeder who celebrated a birthday with us on 101 Gold and today her name was drawn for the $100 Gift Certificate to Wright Jewelers, 1300 El Paseo Road

101 Gold Nugget of Knowledge: Here’s a strange one out of Kentucky…where a fight over a lawnmower ended up with one man being forced to eat his own beard. Two men went to visit two brothers to see about buying a lawnmower. When the two visitors thought they were being cheated…an argument started…and knives and guns were produced. The victim said one of the buyers put a knife to his brother’s neck while the other buyer shaved the first man…and forced him to eat his own beard. The two men were later caught by police.
One of the highlights of the 20th annual Senior Olympics in Southern California was 92-year-old Bill Wewer doing 59 pushups in 2 minutes. Wewer, a retired school principal, was the oldest overall competitor Saturday and the only entrant in the 85-and-older push-up category. So he only needed to do one pushup to grab the gold. “My goal was always to do half my age - 46. Lately, during training, I pushed myself to do 50 and then 60,” Wewer said. He had hoped to do 60 during the event, “but I just couldn’t quite get there,” Bill added.
