The 101 number one song of the day was from a group in the tradition of the Crystals, the Marvelettes, and the Chiffons but there was a difference. Theirs was the first girl group to get to number one that was…white. They were three girls from New Jersey; two of them sisters, Barbara and Phyllis Allbut and their friend Peggy Santiglia who sang lead. Their first single, called “Til” reached number 14, their second, “Cry baby Cry” went to number 38 but the third single they recorded got them to the top and it was at number one on September 1, 1963 for the Angels (My Boyfriends’s Back)

Anne Hathaway and Shia LaBeouf top Forbes’ annual list of Hollywood’s Best Actors For The Buck, the ones who earn the most for what they’re paid. LaBeouf came in No. 1, thanks to “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” which brought in $836 million worldwide, and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which earned $787 million worldwide. Shia brought in $81 for every $1 he was paid. In second place was Anne Hathaway, mostly due to her appearance in the $1 billion-grossing “Alice in Wonderland” and “Bride Wars,” which brought in $115 million. Hathaway’s movies earn her employers $64 in profit for each $1 she earns. Topping the worst actor for the buck list is Will Ferrell, who was paid $1 for every $3.29 his movies made. The magazine examined Hollywood’s top 36 earners.

Officials say a golfer’s off-target swing sparked a 12-acre blaze in Southern California. The golfer at the Shady Canyon Golf Course in Irvine landed a shot in the rough Saturday. On his next swing, his club snagged a rock, causing a spark that started a fire and eventually attracted 150 firefighters to the scene. Fire officials say the fire burned through the rough, into vegetation next to the course and over two dry, brushy hillsides. No charges were filed against the golfer.
