According to English legend, if it rains today, it will rain for the next 40 days. Since rain in this part of the world tends to be scattered, we wonder if it rains, say, on the east mesa but not on the Downtown Mall, will it rain for 40 days on the east mesa but not on the Downtown Mall? Considering we live in the desert, none of this really applies but what the heck.
The 101 number one song of the day was published by a music company that was housed in a gasoline station and recorded by a group that didn’t exist. Gary Paxton was the man behind the song but he thought he was still under contract to another label as one half of the duo “Skip and Flip.” And he didn’t want to be Skip or Flip any more, so when he recorded today’s featured song, he took the name of the street where a Chevron station stood in Hollywood, CA. He hung out there where the writer of today’s 101 number one song of the day worked overnight. They decided to form a music publishing company and used the gas station’s pay phone as their business phone. It was a shaky start but by July 15, 1960 the fruits of their labor had risen to be the number one song in America. Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston announced they were engaged…by appearing with their baby on the cover of US magazine. They said they reconnected three months ago while they were hashing out visitation rights for the baby. And they also said they hadn’t told Bristol’s parents yet…because that was a little intimidating. Yeah – especially when you consider Levi is getting between a mama grizzly and her cub. -
(Sarah Palin said that was ridiculous….she supports anything her daughter wants… and she can’t wait to welcome Levi into the family…and maybe take him out hunting…with maybe Dick Cheney.)
New research at Northwestern University shows guys are socially conditioned to eat manly food in public…so they won’t appear gay. The study said men grow up conditioned to believe red meat and beer are ‘man-food’. As part of their experiment – they invited men and women to a restaurant with a specific menu. They found women were more apt to order food described as having a ‘wine sauce’…while men picked food that came with ‘gravy’. Women would order a salad as a meal – men wanted meat.
Wallet Pop’s web site has a list of the most annoying things at the grocery store. Here’s a few of the things that irritate people food shopping: the giant grocery basket with the kid car attached to the front end; aisle blockers, express lane abuse, the payment procrastinator, self checkout lanes, and people that won’t move forward after they put their food on the checkout belt. A new survey of 3000 women found the average woman changes her hairstyle one hundred times during her life. Between the ages of 13 and 65 – women will typically change their hairstyle twice a year, including different styles and colors. The average woman experiments with three different colors – and the number one reason for changing a hairstyle – is boredom.
