Today is Make Your Children Laugh Day. Do something really goofy they’ll still remember next year.
The 101 number one song of the day established five remarkable records that have never been broken and it is highly unlikely that they ever will be. First of all – the record topped the greatest monopoly of Billboard Magazine’s top five: all five songs belonged to the same artist. Secondly, it established the greatest monopoly of the Top 100 with a total of ten singles on the charts at the same time. Third, the biggest leap to number one – from number 27. Fourth, Most consecutive number ones which at the time was three in a row. And finally, the Largest Advance Sale with orders of 2.1 million records. By this time you probably have a pretty good idea which group was responsible for all this but do you know which song was number one on April 5, 1964 to set all these records? It’s the Beatles and “Can’t Buy Me Love”
From the “Who Knew” Department: Turns out a little anxiety is good for you – especially if you’re depressed. A new study discovered depressed people found anxiety and anxious apprehension (better know as worry) helps them perform better when they’re depressed. -Well – if anxiety helps depression…there ain’t nobody depressed these days!!!
Stay at home movies: Watched “W” this weekend (Dubya) the Oliver Stone movie about President George Bush (the younger.) Interesting movie but it’ll make you squirm, regardless of your politics.
101 Gold Nugget of Knowledge: Police in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania, said two men tried to rob and carjack a pizza delivery driver but were defeated by the vehicle’s standard transmission. Police said the Domino’s Pizza driver had stopped at a red light early Friday when a man ran up to the vehicle from the rear and grabbed her by the throat and shirt. He demanded money while a second man tried to open the passenger door. The driver said the men fled after making a reference to the manual transmission. Investigators did not say whether they escaped with any money from the driver.
Two dozen women drew a crowd of 500 when they shed their shirts and marched downtown in Portland, Maine, to promote what they call equal-opportunity public toplessness. Organizer Ty MacDowell said the point of Saturday’s march was that a topless woman out in public shouldn’t attract any more attention than a man who walks around without a shirt. Who knew?
And here’s our Level One question in this morning’s Swap or Stop question. What is the name of the mayor of Las Cruces?
