And…today is Near Miss Day, marking this date in 1989 when a mountain-sized asteroid passed within 500,000 miles of earth, a close-call, according to NASA.  Owww!

Today’s 101 Number One Song of the Day was the only major hit for a group of four men who didn’t have ANY hits until they added a fifth member and dropped their name which would become world famous – for somebody else. The guys had sung together in their high school choir and after graduating, went to New York to make a name for themselves. That name was the Supremes. But soon they decided on another name and three ladies from Detroit started using the Supremes, but that’s another story. The name change was followed by a personnel addition. They added a woman by the name of Ruby Nash who became their lead singer. When they laid down the track for today’s featured song, it was the first time Ruby Nash had ever set foot in a recording studio. That song entered the Hot 100 on February 9, 1963 and six weeks later on March 23, it reached number one – for the group now known as Ruby and the Romantics and the song is “Our Day Will Come”

AOL has an interesting web story…10 bad habits and what they cost. Fore example, buying a soft drink every day at work – is going to cost you about $550 a year! Buy a gossip magazine at the check out every week – and you’ll spend about $180 a year. Stop for a fancy cup of coffee every morning…and you’re out over $1,400 a year. Play your number on the lottery every day…that’s $365 a year. Smoking depends on where you live. A pack a day habit in a five-dollar a pack state sets you back $1,825 a year. If you live in a ten-dollar a pack state – that’s up to $3,650 a year!! That’s why I chew my finger-nails…it doesn’t cost me a thing!!!

The story behind the 101 Gold Nugget of Knowledge: A fugitive wanted for bank robbery in Michigan is in custody after police say he walked out of a Pittsburgh hospital and into a bar wearing only his hospital gown, with an IV needle still his arm. Police were called to JR’s Bar Friday night after 20-year-old Elbert Lewis Thompson II walked in from Allegheny General Hospital. Thompson fled the bar when police arrived but was soon cornered between some houses. Officials said Thompson became violent and was subdued with a Taser.

And get this…

A family was on vacation in Australia when the husband, wife and their 15 year old son decided to go scuba diving. The husband is in the Navy and has had some scuba experience. His son wanted a picture of his mom and dad in all their gear so he got the underwater camera ready to go. When it came to taking the picture the dad realized that the son looked like he was panicking as he took it and gave the 'OK' hand sign to see if he was all right.
The son took the picture and swam to the surface and back to the boat as quickly as he could so mum and dad followed to see if he was OK. When they got back to him, he was scrambling onto the boat and panicking. When the parents asked why, he said 'there was a shark behind you.' The dad thought he was joking but the skipper of the boat said it was true. As soon as they got back to the hotel they loaded the picture onto the laptop and this is what they saw.
