Do you have anybody left in the NCAA playoffs? NMSU made it a game. Michigan State moves on. It’s been a crazy tournament so far.
Today is International Goof-Off Day, a day to be oneself: to have fun and to be silly. Today is As Young As You Feel Day, a day to stop acting your age.
The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by an artist who most people would be surprised that he was associated with Motown. In fact he had to buy the rights to today’s featured record back from Motown before it became a hit. He and his former group had great success in the early sixties and later signed to the new label because they expected to work directly with Berry Gordy, Jr. But at this point he was too involved with supervising the production of the movie “Lady Sings the Blues” starring Diana Ross. After a couple of years, today’s featured singer left Motown to sing with a new label which was just founded by Clive Davis. There was one song from the Motown years that he recorded but was never released and he had strong feelings about it so he put of $4000 of his own money to buy back the rights and that was the song that arrived at number one on March 22, 1975 for – Frankie Valli (My Eyes Adored You)
Dancing With The Stars’ new season starts tonight. 80-year old astronaut Buzz Aldrin performs his first dance tonight. And since he’s been on the moon…he’s telling the truth when he says he used to be lighter on his feet.
A new study out of New York University says daydreaming is good for your brain. They found people that performed a long list of mental challenges without taking time off – didn’t perform as well as people than took a break and let their minds wander. After daydreaming, people were able to process and memorize information better. -So remember today to take a little time to daydream. It’s the equivalent of your brain going out for a smoke.
The Indian Army has a new crowd control weapon at their disposal – the blinding chili grenade. The grenade explodes – sending a cloud of bhut jolokin chili into the crowd – the acknowledged hottest chili on earth. The chili is said to be two times hotter than the Mexican red savina chili…and cause tests subjects to be blinded for several hours and experience difficulty breathing.
Remember a few weeks back when the Post Office wanted to drop Saturday mail service? They’re still go through the Congressional approval process before they’re allowed to scale back to save money. But in a new Poll…it looks like nobody really cares anyway. The majority of people polled have no problem with a five day delivery schedule. And interesting – I thought it would got the other way – but people over 55 are less interested in Saturday delivery than people under 35. That’s because by the time you’re 55…all the charity mailing address label people have found you…and that’s the only thing you get in the mail.
You know how the dog gets excited when you get ready to take him for a walk? What do you suppose he's thinking if you take him parachuting out of a plane? NATO forces are currently participating in one of Europe's biggest military exercises, and that includes paratroopers and dogs jumping out of planes from 10-thousand feet in what's called High Altitude High Opening missions. The dogs are specially trained to breathe through oxygen masks during the jump, carry cameras affixed to their heads, and attack anyone carrying a weapon. They also wear Kevlar body armor. A dog handler explained that you don't have to worry about Fido. "Dogs don't perceive height difference," he says, "so that doesn't worry them. They're more likely to be bothered by the roar of the engines, but once we're on the way down, that doesn't matter and they just enjoy the view."
