Las Cruces St. Patrick’s Day Parade a huge success!

Top of the mornin’ to ya.

This year we increased the parade participation dramatically. The tradition of marching on St. Paddy’s Day began one year ago today when Mike McKay marched solo around the Bravo Mic Communications headquarters. This year he was joined by Brian Hulbert, the voice of the Southern New Mexico Speedway and the Mesilla Valley Sports Minute on 101 Gold. Then after doubling participation, the two were joined by Dolores Diaz, Christy Anchondo and Irene Valles of the Diocese of Las Cruces, (pictured below) thereby quintupling participation.  Just wait ‘til next year!

34-million Americans claim Irish ancestry – including President Obama. Or is that O’Bama? That’s nine times more than the entire population of Ireland.

Your chance of finding a four-leaf clover is one in 10,000. This is why it’s considered lucky – each leaf on a clover stands for something – the first leaf stands of hope, the second –faith, the third – love…and the fourth leaf stands for luck.

You can go Leprechaun hunting from the comfort of your couch! IrelandsEye.com has a Webcam installed in an Irish field for visitors to glimpse the mythical creature. The Webcam overlooks a fairy ring in Tipperary, Ireland, an area reputed to be a haunt for leprechauns, sheeries, pookas and other Irish fairies. You can also find out about all things Irish and St. Patrick’s Day. www.irelandseye.com/leprechaun/webcam.htm

The producer of today’s 101 number one song of the day wanted to create a record that reminded him of his idol, Buddy Holly and at the same time rescue a singer from his descent into bubblegum music. His name was Steve Barri and it was Holly, along with the Everly Brothers that inspired him to get into the music business. He became a fan of today’s featured singer because of his Buddy-like sound. But this singer’s later records began moving more towards that bubblegum sound that Barri felt didn’t do him justice. He signed on to produce three singles – two sounded like Holly and the third – which the producer liked the least became the hit and on March 17, 1969 it was the number one song in America – Bubblegum won – Tommy Roe co-wrote the song as well as sang it – “Dizzy”
