After all it IS Friday and it’s also Make Your Own Holiday Day
The two people responsible for today’s 101 number one song of the day met in a service elevator in a rundown Philadelphia building where they had run to escape a gang fight. And the song was about something that will come as a surprise to most people. More on that lower down.
But first, some of the stuff we talked about this morning and maybe… something or other we didn’t get to.
A new scientific study says a relaxed mind remembers more. They found brain waves are more synchronized during relaxation, daydreaming and drowsiness. So your brain can actually remember more details when you’re zoned out! It’s funny, because I daydreamed through the last two years of college – and I don’t remember a thing.
This is a great time to be a sports fan – March Madness is marching on to the Final Four; baseball season is set to begin; and Tiger Woods is planning a come-back at the Masters. In a new CNN Poll – 60% of the people polled want Tiger to win the Masters. Of course, that may be because 60% of the people don’t know anyone else that golfs!!
Sarah Palin’s reality show/documentary about life in Alaska has been picked up by TLC. The show will be called ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’. The show will highlight the vastness and beauty of Alaska’s wilderness and wildlife…right before Sarah shoots it!!!
The Octomom in Los Angeles is behind on her mortgage payments and in danger of losing her home. So she’s accepted an offer from PETA. They’ll pay her $5,000, which would bring her current on her mortgage – and she’ll let the animal rights people put a sign in her front yard. The sign reads ‘ Don’t Let Your Dog or Cat Become an Octomom – Spay and Neuter Your Pets.’ Sounds pretty desperate.
Here’s the perfect place to get in the spirit for Easter. A couple in Pasadena, California have a ‘Bunny Museum’. It’s the world’s largest collection of bunnies – with over 26,000 stuffed and ceramic bunnies along with all things bunny. They’ve got bunny wallpaper and wind-chimes, bunny phones and bunny screen savers. If fact, they have so many bunny collectibles, they admit it’s hard to keep the place clean. Yep – they say they have a lot of ‘dust-bunnies’.
A teenager robbed a convenience store in Salt Lake City with a knife. Right before he ran off with the money – he warned the clerk – ‘Don’t call the cops. And don’t tell my Mom! Remember mom saying, “I brought you into to this world and I take you out of it!”
In November, the voters in California will decide if they want to legalize marijuana as a recreational drug. Some people think legalizing pot…and then taxing its use - could help save the state. This is the same state that just banned cigarette smoking in state parks. So if the cops catch you smoking at the beach…you better hope it’s pot!!!
And now back to the 101 Number One Song of the Day: It was written about an ex boyfriend of the girl who was dating one half of the duo who brought it to number one. He was the heir to a fast food chain. He was, according to the girl, very wealthy and very arrogant. But as the writer said, “You can’t write, ‘You’re a rich boy’ in a song, so I changed it to a girl. The writer was Darryl Hall. The song reached number one on March 26th, 1977 for Hall and Oates “Rich Girl.”
