Today is National Cheese Doodle Day. Today is Act Goofy Day, a day to do silly things just for the fun of it. At least, wear a goofy hat.
The 101 number one song of the day was allegedly named for a famous groupie and it was supposed to be the B side of the single but some thought the A side was too dirty. You’re probably familiar with both sides. Many radio program directors found it easier to flip the record over because they were uncomfortable with the subject of the song that today’s featured group preferred although the band wasn’t particularly happy with either side. Their front man later referred to the album on which the songs were contained as mostly rubbish. But the fans disagreed and on March 5th, 1967, the single on the flip side of “Let’s Spend the Night Together” was number one in America – The Rolling Stones (with Ruby Tuesday)
ABC is planning another celebrity competition show after Dancing With The Stars season ends. It’s called ‘Skating With The Stars’ and pairs up professional figure skaters with celebrities. Fox TV did Skating With Celebrities in 2006 – but never ran a second season. The thought of doing complicated choreography while on ice makes Mike McKay shudder.
And speaking of things that can make you shudder…while Sarah Palin was in Los Angeles to appear on The Tonight Show this week – she and super-producer Mark Burnett were visiting all the networks pitching a new reality series. The show would be a docudrama about Alaska and the Palin family. Critics say a cable channel would gobble something like that up in a heartbeat…but Palin and Burnett want a broadcast network spot.
Don’t know if you’ve seen these yet – but they’re being called the next horrible foot fad. Flexible, slip-on shoes with five articulated toes. The brand name is Vibram Five Finger Shoes – and they kind of look like gloves…for your feet. Honestly now, the only people who need individual, articulated toes in their shoes…aren’t people. They’re monkeys!!!
Here’s something that’ll make you go awwwww! A hen has astonished its owners on an English farm - by taking a litter of puppies under its wing. Mabel took a shine to the pups and now keeps them warm by roosting on top of them in their dog basket. Owners Edward and Ros Tate, of Shrewsbury, said she waited until the puppies' mother, Nettle, left them before hopping into the basket to keep them warm. Nettle is now left out in the cold - pining for her puppies in the yard - as they nest with their adopted mother. "Nettle was a bit startled to say the least - but she didn't mind too much eventually. She's happy to have a helping pair of wings. "We're hoping that soon Mabel will have her own chicks to look after but I don't think Nettle will be returning the favour when that happens." And he added: "Mabel was hatched here about a year ago. She would have gone onto someone's dinner plate but we saved her and brought her into the house. "It was within a week Mabel was jumping in the box with them and brooding over them. She took to them like they were her own chicks."
