Wow!  That’s impressive.   But for those of us who are more conservative perhaps you might pick up one of these.

A bit of advice – don’t scrimp and buy the cheapest kind you can find.  KC bought Mike a really cheesy one a few years ago and it didn’t cut the hair so much as yank it out.  Ouch!

The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by a group which was once known as the Pagans whose lead singer was first inspired to get into music after hearing a song called, “don’t Roll Those Bloodshot Eyes at Me.”

He grew up in England inspired by American R&B and rock and roll artists such as Chuck Berry, Wilbert Harrison and Bo Diddley. Later, he joined a group called the Alan Price Combo which evolved into the Pagans whose lineup included all the members that would record the song you’re about to hear. The lead singer had first heard the song when he was ten years old and the melody always haunted him. Eventually, it would launch his musical career which would include two separate popular groups. According to popular myth, the group’s audiences had a special name for them other than the Pagans and that is the name we came to know them by. He is Eric Burdon and the group became the Animals. The song which was number one on September 8th, 1964 was House of the Rising Sun.

The New Desert Harmony Singers began years ago as a Sweet Adelines chorus in Las Cruces. Under Kinkaid’s leadership, Las Cruces Grande changed its name to the New Desert Harmony Singer and it has evolved into a community chorus of women and men who love to perform and sing only popular music. Their concerts have focused on musical themes like country music, rock ‘n’ roll, Big Band and Broadway. Kinkaid has been the musical director for over five years.

The Las Cruces performance of “A Celebration of American Music” will be held at the Performing Arts Center at Oñate High School, 5700 Mesa Grande Drive, on Saturday, September 10, with a 7 p.m. curtain time.
