2011 Look Who’s Dancing Contestant and Mesilla Mayor Nora Barraza was in the 101 Gold studios this morning.  She’s loving the dancing and is looking forward to the Saturday, April 16th competition.  Get your tickets and join emcees Mike and KC for a very fun evening at the Pan American Center.

Another round of Swap or Stop today at 1:40 pm with Jack Lutz.  Erica played this morning and swapped prizes to level three when this question tripped her up:  Who was the president of the Confederacy during the U. S. Civil War?

Music History 101: April 5, 1983 – Interior Secretary James Watt cancelled a scheduled appearance by this group at the Washington, DC, 4th of July celebration because, he said, "rock and roll bands attract the wrong element" --

Watt's decision was later reversed by Ronald Reagan two days later. Who was it? It was the Beach Boys.

The Beach Boys

101 Number One Song of the Day: marked a return to the roots of the kind of rock and roll for a group whose previous several songs were considered “socially relevant.” It was 1971 but the sound was pure 1965.  It was the 17th chart record produced by Norman Whitfield for the group you’re about to hear. By the late 60’s they had evolved their style from romance to revolution reflecting the turbulent times. But that formula was beginning to wear thin so they decided to change their direction once again to one that was more reminiscent of the style which brought them into prominence. And it worked, giving them their 3rd number one single which arrived on top of the charts on April 3, 1971. Here are the Temptations (Just My Imagination)
