Today is also National Denim Day.

And this being a Friday, we had a visit from the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley.  Meet Tamara:

Okay, that’s not actually Tamara in KC’s arms.  It’s Tia, her sister, who was last week’s featured pet.  But they look exactly alike and if both of them can go to the same good home it would be ideal.  The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley opens every day at noon, including this Monday, Columbus Day.  It’s at 3551 Bataan Memorial right off Highway 70 (take the Sonoma Ranch exit.)

Today is also National Fluffernutter Day. Fluffernutter is a delicacy made with bread, marshmallow fluff, and peanut butter.

Music History 101:   1992 The U.S. Postal Service announces a commemorative stamp booklet that included rock legends Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and Otis Redding.

The 101 number one song of the day was the second number one song by the man labeled by no less than Frank Sinatra as the only genius in the music business.  Songwriter Percy Mayfield thought the number would work on two levels: first, some people would think it was funny and, second, others would think it was real. The singer thought it would work because he particularly liked the “call and response” feature that was prominent in his first big hit. It reached number one this week in October, 1961 and it’s today’s 101 number one song of the day for Ray Charles – “Hit the Road Jack”
