Be Electrific Day

idea

This comes around each year on the anniversary of the birth of Thomas Alva Edison who had more than a thousand patents to his name.  Which led us to speculate why inventions are so often compared to “sliced bread.”

BTW, a scientist in Australia has created an actual ‘thinking cap’. He says the cap is wired with electrodes to zap electricity in the brain…and that enhances creativity. He says the cap won’t help with memory or math…but it does loosen up the brain for creative thinking.

Here’s a great idea – Why not give serious consideration to adopting a pet from the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley.  On this Valentine’s Day weekend just think of the unconditional love you receive from a pet.  Meet this week’s featured animal:

dog - etini

“Etini” is about 6-7 months old and is female.  While she was in the 101 Gold studio this morning she behaved beautifully.  She would make anyone a great companion.

History 101: February 11, 1861 President-elect Abraham Lincoln departs Springfield, Illinois, and heads to Washington for his inauguration.

Not really Music History 101: 1942: The Archie comic book debuted, featuring Riverdale High’s Archie Andrews, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and the rich, conniving Reggie. Archie had debuted two months earlier in Pep comics. Spinoffs included a long-time radio show, two TV cartoon series, and a rock group called The Archies.

The 101 number one song of the day was the only American number one to originate in France. It was an unlikely candidate to reach the top.  The song originated as part of the Eurovision contest in which the nations of Europe competed to come up with the best song. A woman by the name of Vicky Leandross sang the song you’re about to hear but unfortunately it didn’t too well despite the fact she sang it in 19 different languages. Maybe it was the words because once they were omitted, it started to make headway and that’s the odd part – it was the first instrumental to reach the top in America in five years – since the record Telstar achieved that feat in 1962. And today’s 101 number one song of the day was number one on February 11, 1968 – Paul Mauriat – Love is Blue.
