…a day to take it easy
Elvis Week begins today at Graceland in Memphis.
The 101 number one song of the day was sung by a guy torn between rock and roll and classical music but what ultimately compelled him to perform the former was that he was unhappy with the way one of his songs was recorded by Little Anthony and the Imperials. That song was something he had written called “the Diary.” It didn’t come out the way he imagined so, although he was developing a reputation as an up and coming songwriter, he decided to take matters into his own hands. So the Julliard School of Music trained pianist opted to go behind the mic and record his own stuff. As far as today’s 101 number one song of the day was concerned he thought he had a hit but something was missing. The night before the recording session, he couldn’t sleep. Then suddenly, he had the missing part and called his arranger at 12:30 in the morning to repeat the words that would become one of the immortal phrases of rock and roll. With those words his song would be complete and on August 10, 1962, it would be the number one song in America – for Neil Sedaka and those words were: (Comma, comma, down-doo-be-doo-down down (Breaking Up is Hard To Do)
Other stuff:
Stephen Hawking is now telling humans that we have to figure out a way to leave earth and colonize space if we expect to survive. He says earth in on a path to get wiped out by a global disaster. But he says he’s an optimist – if we can avoid being wiped out for the next two centuries – we’ll probably be advanced enough to spread across the universe and survive.
-Hey – from his lips…to God’s ears.
The 101 Gold Nugget of Knowledge: Over in Great Britain…102 people all rode a roller coaster together…setting a new world record for riding a roller coaster naked.
-Can you imagine standing in line for a roller coaster…and the ride pulls in…full of naked people?? You’ve got to be thinking…’Man, this thing must go fast!’
The cast for the next season of Survivor – Survivor Nicaragua has been revealed…and former NFL coach and commentator Jimmy Johnson is in the cast.
This season will be young against old – so they want to match strength against experience. Another interesting contestant – there is a woman on the younger tribe…with an artificial leg.
Usually on Survivor…the only thing artificial…are the women’s breasts.
