Sure is.
Today is Talk Intelligently Day. For those who normally talk intelligently, it’s Talk Brilliantly Day.
It is also Courtesy Appreciation Day, a time to thank those who are courteous. Every day should be courtesy appreciation day.
History 101: 1995 – This divorced couple reunited for their first concert together in 16 years on Martha's Vineyard
James Taylor and Carly Simon
The 101 number one song of the day was sung by a man born Charles Hatcher whose first paycheck was a Sealy Posturpedic mattress – but he had to split it five ways! He was performing as part of quintet called the Future Tones. They entered a local talent contest on a TV show and won. The first prize was the mattress. Eventually he moved out on his own and onto Cleveland where he was signed to a contract by Ric Tic Records which was bought by Motown. He recorded a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong which was number one on August 30, 1970 and although Vietnam itself was never mentioned, it was clear what the song was about. And the time was right for the man since renamed – Edwin Starr (War)
This sure is weird: Police in Oregon have arrested a 27-year old man for a disturbing, I guess, crime. They say he approaches male high school athletes and begins questioning them as though he’s a reporter. Then he jumps on their backs…and demands ‘piggy back’ rides. Most victims are distressed…and completely baffled. Police say he didn’t harm any of the athletes…he just disturbed them.
-They’re not the only ones obviously disturbed.
Big doings in Serbia over the weekend – it was the Seventh Annual World Testicle Festival. Testicle chefs from around the world came with their best recipes. Apparently one of the big hits at this year’s event – kangaroo testicles. And in case you’re a little squeamish – the main ingredient in Serbia is known as ‘white kidneys’.
Here in the states, people prefer bulls but we think they’re all nuts.
Chemistry scientists at the University of Edinburg have created the world’s first fuel cell that runs on human urine. They say the system breaks down urine into water, nitrogen and CO2 – and then uses that combination to create electricity.
-Apparently these guys are whizzes when it comes to electricity.
and while we’re on the subject -
Last week we had the story about J. D. Salinger’s toilet being up for sale on eBay. Over the weekend, John Lennon’s toilet sold at auction for $14,700. It was the toilet from his English home he lived in from 1969 to 1971.
