The 101 number one song of the day was recorded by a hit making machine that often was slammed by the critics for not writing their own material. The critics should have recognized their incredible knack for discovering a long list of unknowns who would go on to make up whose who of pop songwriters. They recognized the talent and recorded the work of Laura Nyro, Harry Nilsson, Leo Sayer, Elton John and Bernie Taupin before they were discovered by the public. The song that was number one on July 13, 1970 was written by Randy Newman who would go on to have a huge hit with his composition, “Short People” – the group was Three Dog Night and here’s the 101 number one song of the day: Mama Told Me Not to Come
Other stuff:
You know what’s wrong with Americans? Travel Channel host Andrew Zimmern says Americans don’t eat enough bugs. He says they’re healthier for you – loaded with protein, and there’s an inexhaustible supply. He thinks it’s strange we shy away from eating bugs. Every country – with the exception of the US, Canada and Europe includes insects in their diet. One nutritionist said an optimal diet would consist of 75% insects. Here’s a website with some insect eating ideas: http://www.manataka.org/page160.html
Frogs love to eat bugs and they’re very good and catching them.
Here’s something from today’s Weird 101: – a Chinese newspaper is reporting the Taliban in Afghanistan is training monkeys to use AK-47’s and is hoping to have them shoot at American soldiers. Part of the strategy – again, according to the paper – is to have American animal rights people rise up and force an end to the conflict - when soldiers start shooting monkeys.
-Or…or we raise our own Army of monkeys…
Scientists in Europe have discovered the secret to success in sports. It’s your belly-button. Not whether you have an ‘innie’ or an ‘outie’…but where it’s located in relation to the rest of your body. They say the navel is the center of gravity of your body. For example – a track athlete of African descent has a belly-button about three centimeters higher than a European athlete. That gives them a higher center of gravity…and since running is the act of falling forward – they have a slight advantage in speed. An athlete of European ancestry has a lower center of gravity…which give them a 1.3% advantage in swimming.
-We dare you to go through the rest of the day without looking at your belly-button.
